Living as a student in Germany is cheaper than in most central European countries. The exact costs depend on the personal lifestyle, but you should calculate roughly 700 - 800 EUR monthly (more information on the cost of living can be found on the website of the Studierendenwerk Freiburg: www.swfr.de/en/money/Introduction

In social emergencies, clothing stamps can be obtained from Student Services. These stamps can be used at the clothing warehouse of Vereinigung Freiburger Sozialarbeit (Freiburg social work association). Student Services can also assist students in getting a customer card to shop at a discounted grocery store‚ ‘Freiburger Tafel’.

With your student ID of the KH Freiburg or with the International Student Identity Card (ISIC), you will generally receive a discount at the cinema, in museums and elsewhere around the city.

Under the section Living in Freiburg, we provide more tips about inexpensive ways to live and eat etc.
